Schlapp has been keeping an eye on the goal, coordinating policies with White House staff from the department of legislative and political affairs and the policy shop, and broader communications. Her focus to date has been on topics such as safety in schools and the opioid crisis, infrastructure, trade, along with other issues. The position she holds, however, means that Schlapp is not in contact with a lot of journalists. The issue came up in March when she received a flurry of interest, after it was widely known that Schlapp was a potential candidate to take over Hope Hicks's post as director of communication. The battle has been brutal. Schlapp allied with Tony Sayegh, who was a candidate. They started fighting in media. Schlapp said to that the Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh regarding an article that had been published in the past on him.
